Weddings in Lazio, Beautiful wedding locations in reach of Rome. Part One.

Rome wedding at the Villa Lais.

As a wedding photographer in Rome one of my favorite things is the variety of weddings you can have in Rome. Each Rome wedding is unique in it's own way. It's what makes being a wedding photographer in Italy so much fun!

This wedding was at the Villa Lais and everything about it was unique. This was a small wedding so the couple both got ready together in an apartment in the centre of Rome. And although we were on a tight schedule for this wedding we did get a chance to get a few shots of the bride and groom before we left.

Two cars took the couple and their guests out of the centre of Rome to the Villa Lais where the bride arrived into the gardens of the villa into bright sunshine.

Since we were the first wedding of the afternoon at the villa we had a few minutes to get some shots around the gardens.

And then it was time to get started with our Roman wedding! Since the bride and groom had already arrived together they decided to start the ceremony by walking down the aisle together.

Then once seated it was time for them to make their vows together.

And exchange rings.

Afterwards we had the chance to spend a few more minutes in the gardens of the Villa Lais which gave the bride a chance to toss the bouquet!

Once it was time to leave the cars were ready to take us back into Rome for some fun shots around the most famous landmarks.

Our couple were lucky enough to have a fantastic couple of drivers that really went out of their way to make their tour around Rome interesting and unique. To start with we headed up the Aventine Hill where we stopped at a little place not so well known to every visitor to Rome, the knights of Malta keyhole. It was a fun little stop for the bride and groom and a great place for some out of the way photographs.

And while the rest of the wedding guests had a look through the keyhole I had a chance to photograph the bride as she watched their reactions!

We made our way down from the Aventine hill and stopped at the Pantheon and the Colosseum before ending up at St Peter's.

As the afternoon was turning to dusk we got some fablous shots of the dome in the distance.

After this our drivers were still keen to show our couple the sights of Rome so we headed up to the summit of Gianicolo Hill to catch the end of the afternoon sun.

 We were only together for four hours on this wedding shoot but we managed to pack in a full days worth of emotions and moments!

A Personal Wedding in Rome.

A wedding is the most personal moment and even though you may be getting married thousands of miles from home, like this couple, they showed that you really can have the day exactly how you imagined. This couple from the US planned everything themselves and put together an unforgettable wedding in Rome.

The venue for the wedding ceremony was the rooftop terrace garden 'La terazza del Cesari' at the Albergo Cesari and both the bride and groom made their preparations in the rooms below. 

I photographed the groom and his entourage first as they made their final adjustments to their suits and then it was a across to the bride's room where we got some great shots of her final preparations. 

Whilst this was happening the wedding guests were making their way upstairs to their positions on the terrace.

With a few minutes to spare before the ceremony was to begin we took a moment to get some shots of the bride in her room.

The window made the perfect frame for the shots and the light fell nicely to really accentuate the bride. 

And the decor of the room really lent itself to this classical black and white feel of the images.

The weather had been pretty changeable all day but their luck just about held out and with a break in the rain everyone was in position for the ceremony, awaiting the arrival of the bride.

When I'm photographing the bride and her father beginning their walk down the aisle I often wonder what last words of wisdom are said!

With the arrival of the bride we were ready to begin.

I love outdoor weddings and among the rooftops of Rome was a great place to hold a wedding ceremony.

With the vows complete and the exchanging of the rings the wedding was complete.

The ceremony was taken by the grooms sister and the flower arch under which they all stood was actually brought out with them from the States! Nothing like the personal touch on your wedding day.

The weather just held out as the couple made their way inside for aperitivi. 

I always enjoy this next part of the day when everyone's mingling after the ceremony. Although it can be a tricky to keep the bride and groom in shot when you do catch them it makes for some lovely dynamic shots.

And even with several guests between myself and the couple there's always the chance to pick out a few details from the day.

After all that planning it all happens so fast, I love this picture below as it catches the bride just taking a  momentary pause.

And in the end blue skies prevailed so we took the chance to go back out onto the terrace and really capture the beautiful backdrop.

And from the other side of the terrace too the weather was coming good.

For me Rome is all about the architecture and I love the textures in the building below with the shutters and the weathered stonework it's a picture that is so typical Rome.

While the guests too a breather, myself and the bride and groom made a quick outing into the streets of Rome to get some shots around some of the iconic locations. First stop was the Trevi fountain where the couple received a great ovation and lots of attention. And as usual everyone was very kind in making room for us for a few minutes.

From the Trevi fountain we made our way across to the Pantheon, one of my favorite buildings and one of the great icons of Rome.

And of course the great thing about Rome is that there is a photo opportunity around every corner.

Even just a door way makes for a great backdrop in Rome!

Our last stop was Piazza Navona.

And a lovely shot at Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers.

Always time for one more shot on the way back to the hotel of course!

Afterwards the whole wedding party took a stroll through the streets of Rome to Da Pancrazio for a banquet of a meal. 

The couple chose this restaurant for two reasons, the history, the restaurant is on the site of the Theatre of Pompey, the location of the assassination of Julius Caeser.

And of course the fantastic food. Ahead was an evening of many courses of traditional Roman food.

Great credit to this couple for putting together such a fantastic day, organising their own wedding location, ceremony and evening from some distance away. It really had the personal touch and it also encompassed all that is fantastic about getting married in Rome.

Intimate Wedding at Santa Susanna in Rome.

Wedding photography in Rome at Santa Susanna, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.

This was a wonderful afternoon's shooting in Rome working with a fantastic couple from the USA. This small, intimate service was held at the Church of Santa Susanna, the home of the American Catholic Church in Rome.

The brides preparations were relaxed and fun in a fantastic location just off the Trevi Fountain. It's always one of my favorite moments photographing those last few minutes and the arrival of an excited bride at the church.

As the groom and his witness took their positions in the church I had a few minutes to photograph the bride in one of the side rooms of the church. I love the picture below as it caught the light coming across the bride from the window perfectly.

This next picture summed up for me all that was important on the day. It's caught a great expression on the groom as he watches his bride coming up the isle but not only that it captures the priest looking on at the groom. Even though they were getting married in Rome they'd managed to acquire the services of their previous parish priest to take the service!

The church of Santa Susanna's is one of my favorites in Rome, the exterior in unassuming but when you step inside the interior is breathtaking and a photographer's dream.

From whichever angle you look!

One of the key things for me when photographing a small wedding in such a large church is to both capture the scale and size of the building but also the intimacy of the moment.

This ceremony was just the bride and groom and their witnesses so it mean't there was a great chance for me to photograph the church with the pews empty. 

And here's a lovely spotainious monent as the bride and groom came out of the church. All that planning had paid off and now it was time for a whistle stop tour of Rome!

First stop was the Pantheon. It's always crowded here but we managed to find some space to shoot our bride and groom in front of those spectacular pillars!

And wherever you are in Rome, you're never too far away from a Gladiator!

Which mean't the next obvious stop was the Colosseum.

 And of course to finish we ended up back where  we started, back at the Trevi Fountain.

My congratulations go to this lovely couple that made my job very easy on the day.
